It’s a New Year

I am hoping that 2011 is alot better than 2010. So far the year is off to a great start. Let’s hope it stays that way.

5th Mod: Demello-Offroad Hybrid Sliders

Well it took about 2 months to for my Demello-Offroad Hybrid Sliders to Arrive. They were one of the first things I purchased after I got the 4Runner. This is my 3rd vehicle with Demello’s Sliders, they are constructed very well and they look awesome. I have always liked Demello’s work, I have met Jason a couple of times and each time he was very nice and friendly.

I opted for the Weld on version of the sliders and I also got the bare metal ones which I painted myself. I got the unpowdercoated ones to make easier to touch them up after they have been abused.

Getting ready to be painted:

I took my running boards off and had the runner washed before I took it to get the sliders welded on.

4th Mod Revisted Part 2: Powertank Mounting

I ended up getting the other plate cut, after a few more cuts to get the fit right. I then shot both plates with primer. The plates are not the prettiest work, but they work as intended.

Test fitting the plates and bolts.

A refreshing beverage to help with afternoon heat

Test fitting everything.

Everything bolted in place. I even put locktite on the bolts, I don’t think this is going come apart. If anything the side panel will break first.

Side panel back in place and everything almost buttoned up

Everything back in place, powertank it is new home.

I only had one problem… I broke the bolt that holds the driver side d ring in place, which in turn holds the front part of the carpet down and the threshold in place.

Now I need to get the broken bolt out and get a new one in its place.

After doing this install, I wouldn’t recommend anyone doing the same thing. Which is probably why no one else has done it.

4th Mod Revisted Part 1: Powertank Mounting

After thinking about what others had said about my mounting option. I decided to fix it and make it better.

I took off the rear side, and bought some materials to make this work, Since I have already drilled the holes I am committed to make my power tank work in that spot.

Rear side panel removed (just in case you wondered what it looked like)

Close Up of Rear side panel removed ( I don’t think Long bolts to the fender would have worked for this idea,)

Piece of steel plate that I bought at lowes (I am going to make 2 pieces that fit over all four holes I drilled, one on top and one the bottom of the plastic side panel)

Nuts, Bolts, Washers and Eye protection

Washers

Grade 8 Bolts

Grade 8 Nuts

First piece of plate. I am going to cut another one, once my dremel charges.

I am probably making this more complicated and harder than it should be. But I think I will feel better about it being mounted there.

Hopefully I will have it finished tomorrow after work.

I bought four of these to hold the mount in place

All bolted in and mounted, ready to rock.

3rd Mod: 255/75/17 Goodyear MTRs with Kevlar

Now that my 4Runner was lifted, I had to get some decent off-road tires on it. After much research and websurfing. I decided to go with a 255/75/17 tire for my 4Runner. The reasons I did this was simple.
  1. The spare tire would still fit in the stock location
  2. I would not need to run wheel spacers
  3. No trimming required.
  4. The tires are a 32 inch tire which is good enough for the places I plan to take my 4Runner.

1st Mod Addition: Radio Start Up Text

Just finished the bling mod to my new radio, with the SCION Head Units, you can customize the what displays when the radio turns on. Well here is my radio now.

1st Mod- SCION 1809 Install

Today I successfully compeleted my 1st Mod to my 05 4Runner (Project:Seven2). I replaced the Factory radio with a SCION (Pioneer) T1809 with iPod Connectivity. Since I hardly ever listen to the actual radio stations, and I have around 9000 songs on my iPod this made logically sense to me, especially since I got a deal on the radio (Thanks VenomHP).

Here is the original Unit still in the truck

I followed the directions from http://www.castulucci.com/projects/carpc/oemnaviaccess/to remove the dash pieces so that I could get to the actual head unit.

After I got the dash pieces removed and the old head unit out. I then hooked up the new unit. I decided to use a METRA Ltd 40-UV43 Motorola Antenna Y-adapter and a Gm Micro/Delco Antenna Adapter to connect the dual antennas that Runner is equipped with into the back of the SCION radio, since it only has one.

I then set the head unit in place and bolted in place.

I then turned on the key and powered it on to make sure it worked and everything was hooked up. Wooohooo we have music and from the iPod even..

I then put the dash and everything back together. I was almost done, but I had to modfiy the tray that is underneathe AC Controls, as that is where I wanted the iPod to be. I had seen some people modify the AC Control panel, but I do not have that much faith in my dremal skills. I made the choice to cut an access place in the tray door. I figured if I messed it up, that would not be that much to replace.

Before

After

I very impressed with my dremel work, even though it was a Harbor Freight Special.

Here is the door in place with the cable.

iPod in its new home waiting to be used.

Everything buttoned back up and rocking!!
